Susanna Fields-Kuehl creates paint and textile art. Her works explore the beauty of everyday experiences and nature.

After completing a BA in studio art from Goucher College in Towson, MD in 2004, she studied at the Vijnana Kala Vedi School of Traditional Art in Kerala, India. There she learned traditional mural painting, illustrations of Hindu mythology seen in temples and palaces. Susanna’s latest works use this technique to mythologize her own stories.

In 2009, while studying textiles for her History of Decorative Arts master’s degree through the Smithsonian Associates/Corcoran College of Art + Design, Susanna began training in traditional Japanese embroidery. Having learned to quilt and sew at the age of ten, she expanded her textile techniques through the study of Nuido, the way of embroidery, and found her own voice in the media.

Susanna also experiments with intersections of paint and textile media in various two- and three-dimensional forms, including—but not limited to—quilting, embroidery, appliqué, knitting, wire sculpting, and found objects.
